Your Worth Is a Terrible Pricing Metric (Pricing for HSPs)
I've lowered a price to land the job and then quietly resented the work the whole way through. More than once. It's one of the worst feelings there is, because you want to give someone your best, and that's genuinely hard to do when you don't feel good about what you agreed to.
This came up with several coaching clients in the same week, which is usually my sign it's worth an episode. If you love helping people, and have a real heart for what they're going through, pricing can get weird fast. You don't want to take advantage of anyone. You don't want to seem greedy. And you'd often rather someone get the help than walk away because they couldn't afford it. That tension gets even more personal when you are the business.
So a lot of us end up asking, "what am I worth?" But that's a strange question to build a business on. Your worth is infinite — it's not something you put a dollar amount on. The far more useful question is: what is it worth to me to provide this service at this level to this client?
Because providing the service costs more than the hour. It's the prep, the follow-up, the emotional bandwidth, the recovery time, and the client you're still thinking about in the shower three days later.
For a lot of sensitive people, that invisible work is the expensive part, and most of us never factor it into the price.
Pricing isn't about proving your worth. It's about creating an exchange that lets both parties thrive. If serving people eventually burns you out, nobody wins - seriously tho!
